00:06 Welcome to the True Progress Inventory – our most powerful assessment tool, designed for educational specialists and interventionists to address complex learning needs.

00:16 The Inventory is the most comprehensive assessment within the True Progress suite. It's an online adaptive assessment that evaluates twelve fundamental dimensions of learning in Math or English Language Arts.

00:28 Typically, an assessment will find an overall level of learning in Math, or ELA. This will be represented in a summary score. One score for the whole assessment. There might be sub-scores that indicate strengths and opportunities in specific areas. This works well for most students and can be efficient for tracking progress over time. The more complex learning profiles require a more powerful assessment to see exactly how to best support the student.

00:57 Let’s look at this example: This grade seven student has consistently declining Math screener scores, to the point where he is starting grade 7 well below the core curriculum. Concerned with his recent math challenges in the classroom, and declining math Screener scores, the math specialist administered the True Progress Inventory.

01:17 When the student takes the True Progress Math Inventory, the mystery is solved.

The Math Inventory reveals that some fundamental dimensions of math learning are right on grade level.

  • Algebra

  • Applications

  • And Operations

… are strong at the grade seven level.

Slightly below grade level are..

  • Concept of number

  • Place value

  • And fluency

01:40 Notice that these are all dimensions that rely on algorithms and symbolic representations. The Math Inventory reveals that several other dimensions are well below grade level:

  • Measurement

  • Geometry

  • Data

  • And graphs

… are all several years below grade level. Notice that these dimensions all involve visual representations of mathematical learning.

02:02 This data helps the math specialist see that the seventh grade student is often confused by visual aspects of math and she designs an intervention program to help the student develop these dimensions. The Math Inventory results help point to the entry points for interventions.

02:17 This comprehensive skill mapping supports the design of interventions that address fundamental opportunities for progress in a targeted and efficient way, while also continuing with grade level instruction with the core curriculum in the classroom.

02:32 The True Progress Inventory stands out as a comprehensive and dynamic assessment tool. It provides critical insights for tailored educational interventions in very complex learning situations.

  • Ensuring each student's unique learning needs are understood.

  • Empowering educators to know what to teach next.

In-Depth Overview of the Math Inventory

The Math Inventory is the most in-depth and comprehensive of the Track My Progress assessments. It is an online adaptive assessment designed for specialists and interventionists to use with their students. Its primary purpose is to evaluate a broad range of essential mathematics concepts and skills among students from kindergarten through grade eight. This innovative assessment tool focuses on 12 critical dimensions of mathematical learning:

  • Concept of Number

  • Measurement

  • Geometry

  • Data

  • Graphs

  • Algebra

  • Place Value

  • Fluency

  • Applications

  • Operations

  • Mathematical Language

  • Patterns

One of the key features of the Math Inventory is its adaptability, which allows it to cater to the diverse needs of students with varying levels of mathematical understanding. For advanced learners, the Inventory ensures they have a solid grasp of all foundational aspects of mathematics before progressing to above-grade-level content. For students who may be struggling, the Inventory provides a detailed analysis of specific skill gaps, offering educators insights into areas requiring targeted intervention.

The Inventory can be administered in a group setting, ranging from 20 to 80 minutes based on the student's level. To maintain high levels of engagement and reduce cognitive overload, the Inventory can be administered over several days, limiting each session to 15-20 minutes.

The Math Inventory stands out as a versatile and thorough assessment that not only assesses a wide spectrum of mathematical skills but also provides critical insights for tailored educational interventions, ensuring that each student's unique mathematical learning needs are understood.

The solid red circle with a red X indicates an incorrect response.

A light red circle indicates that the student did not see this question, but it is projected to be an incorrect response because the surrounding questions were answered incorrectly, or the easier questions of this dimension were answered incorrectly.

The solid green circle with a green check indicates a correct response.

A light green circle indicates that the student did not see this question, but it is projected to be a correct response because the surrounding questions or harder questions were answered correctly.
