The Screener assessment is the first step in evaluating student knowledge on the True Progress platform. This assessment is designed to identify each student's learning level compared to the national average, providing educators with an overview of where the students stand as a group. It is an essential tool for identifying students who may be struggling and monitoring student progress throughout the school year.
For classroom educators, the Screener assessment data offers a quick snapshot of class performance. This data can be used to gain in-depth insights into each student's abilities if needed.
The Screener assessment uses four color categories to help educators quickly identify students learning level:
Red Scores: Indicates a concern and that the student should complete the Diagnostic assessment for further analysis.
Yellow Scores: Indicate that the student is at-risk of falling behind and could be signed up for the Diagnostic for a more through analysis.
Blue and Green Scores: Indicates that students are on track, with green suggesting they might be ready for more challenging material.
These color categories provide a shorthand for understanding student performance and planning subsequent assessments. Students scoring in the yellow and red categories are typically signed up for the Diagnostic assessment to pinpoint specific areas of need.
Benefits for Teachers & School Leaders
Classroom educators can view group data to see how the class performed on the Screener overall and the Profile view provides the strengths and weaknesses of groups or individual students. School leaders can view Screener data by grade and class to analyze groups of students and overall Math & ELA scores.
Analyzing Domain Scores
Instead of focusing on specific skill scores, the Screener emphasizes reporting domains. These domains offer a more comprehensive view of student performance, providing valuable insights into various areas of learning. The Screener calculates strengths and weaknesses for each domain based on approximately five or six test questions. The easy way to look for areas of need on the Screener assessment is to use the scores for each domain. The domain scores take the number of questions, the difficulty level, etc. into account. When looking at scores you can click on the PROFILE button to see the domain scores for each student, a class, or a grade of students.
Identifying Areas of Need
By focusing on domains where group performance is lower, indicating areas of need. Look at Group scores by domain to identify specific students who require additional support.
